Winter freeze hits Mercedes and ices the city
The Rio Grande Valley was hit with a cold front that dropped the tempraure to 20 degrees. It caused a freeze and area schools were closed due to the ice that formed on the city streets. Above is the entrance to Tiger Football Stadium on Saturday Frbruary 5.
Mercedes mayor’s race started

The race for Mercedes’ top elected seat is up for grabs and five men have come to the table thus far for the duty of leading the Queen City as mayor.

The stage is set for May 14 and each candidate is preparing their independent campaign.

Mercedes is operating without a mayor since Joel Quintanilla was elected Hidalgo County Commissioner for Pct. 1 in November 2010.
